Golden Ears Jazz Band member:

Ann Fantin

Ann Fantin aka (grrrr)-Annie, was born and raised in a land far far away but moved to the better side of the ocean when she was in her mid-twenties. Sometimes you can still pick up a hint of an Irish lilt from Ann , but that's usually when she sings where she doesn't want to be heard. When Ann is not singing, she plays a variety of instruments; mostly piano and clarinet, but for Golden Ears Jazz Band she plays auxillary percussion, which is making and maintaining a solid rythm with noise made in varying musical tones. Ann especially likes this because she gets to hit things. She hits things, like the cowbell, harder when she thinks of all the theory lessons she took in her teens. She is always seeking new "percussion toys" and has recently taken up the Conga, in addition to everything else she plays.

Besides playing in Golden Ears Jazz Band, Ann also plays for Maple Ridge Concert Band. She started her band career with Beginner Community and Parent Band back in 2001 and hasn't looked back. Ann's favorite expression is "Strike up the band" which is quite meaningful when you realize she plays percussion by striking things.
